Maryland Flag Necklace
Sterling silver Maryland Flag pendant with enamel on a box style chain. If you have ever met a person from Maryland, or been to the state, you would understand why Marylanders love their flag so much. Our uniquely symmetrical flag, with stand-out colors, is unlike any other flag in the USA. This Maryland Flag Necklace is a perfect replica of the flag that locals hold dear. Maryland is famous for its blue crabs, baseball, and for being the birthplace of America's national anthem. Francis Scott Key wrote the original poem which would later turn into the national anthem in 1814. Key witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. The poem was originally titled "The Defense of Fort M'Henry". In 1931 the poem was put to music and called "The Star-Spangled Banner". George Calvert, otherwise known as 1st Baron of Baltimore, is responsible for the flag design. He combined the colors of his paternal and maternal families to create his coat of arms. This is where the bold red and yellow colors come from. In 1904 this design was officially adopted for the state flag. Besides its rich history and beautiful landscapes, Maryland is also home to the U.S Naval Academy, famous civil rights activists and professional athletes. Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas were both from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and became famous abolitionists. As far as famous athletes, baseball stars Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Jr both were born on the western shore of Maryland. Olympic swimmers Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky were also born and raised in Maryland. Show your Maryland pride with this Maryland Flag Necklace!
